WPP’s Ogilvy is laying off roughly 5% of its workforce as part of a restructuring effort. Ogilvy employed about 14,000 people in 2024, according to WPP’s annual report, implying the cuts will affect approximately 700 employees.
Cue smooth PR speak, but the basic gist is that the layoffs are because Ogilvy is betting on AI to help them make more money while costing them less.
They are also disbanding their global DEI team, and instead doing local and regional DEI teams (if you believe that), which always made better sense than an overpaid bunch of DEI people sitting in an office supposedly overseeing all the cultural nuances of each individual market globally (yea right!). So I’m not getting the pitchforks out just yet on that. But losing your job because of AI, welp it has begun. Buckle up pumpkin.
Were you one of those recently laid off from Ogilvy? What’s the vibe there now? Let us know in the comments.
